New Gamer Computer Randomly Freezing

Thread Starter
I just built a new computer and I am having a problem. Every once in a while my computer freezes up on me.

These are the Specs:
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 Quad Core Processor
- EVGA Nforce 780I SLI
- Corsair XMS2 Dominator TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF 4GB 2X2GB
- EVGA E-GEFORCE 9800GX2 KO (Forceware 175.19)
- 2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1000GB 1TB SATA2
- Coolermaster Real Power 750W
- Coolermaster Cosmos S Black Case
- Plextor PX-810SA DVD+RW

I am running 64 bit Vista Home Premium so I was thinking that maybe it is driver related or something. But I have updated my nForce drivers on my motherboard to the latest (I think) and also my video card drivers to the latest. And everything looks like it is running just perfect except for the random freezing up every once in a while. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. Thankyou.

EDIT: I havent overclocked it at all. Everything is stock.

No, I havent overclocked anything everything is stock. I will try memtest and see if that works. I have like 3x 120mm fans running in the case with good airflow and the case has a built in 20cm fan in the side of the case. So I know there is lot sof air going through the case. Whats the best way to check het? Bios?

EDIT: Ok so I d/l SpeedFan to check the temp of the system and cpu and then I ran Prime95 and my system temp went up to 70C and my cores were averaging 60C So I dont think that, thats too high. I will try and find my temp for my gpu somehow.

Idle the system is about 49C and my CPU temps differ from each core. (Core0: 38C, Core1: 31C, Core2: 32C, and Core3: 59C) I dont know if this is good or not.

EDIT2: Ok so I installed nTune to try and check my GPU temp and now when I open up the nVidia Control Panel my computer BSOD's so nwo I am thinking that it maybe my gfx card.

Hey Mr Smile, with Vista you should be able to find the problem a little easier.
Go to the control panel and click on system and maintenance and click View problem history.
I've had a few driver issues. This may not be your issue, but it should point you in the right direction.

Okay well I think I have fixed it. Last night I downloaded the lastest bios update for my motherboard (P06) and then flashed my bios. And amazingly I havent had a problem since. I am quite happy. Now I have been running my computer for a day and nothing has frozen up or gone wrong Thanks for everyone's help!

To be honest, that would be far too hot for me. Try re-seating your heatsink mate. In fact, what heatsink do you have exactly?

I have the stock heatsink that came with my processor. Its just small. It is a circle of fins and about an inch thick with an 80mm fan on top.

I bought a thermaltake heatsink (and it is huge) for my last computer and never put it on and I tryed putting it on this one, but when I went to put it on top of my processor the heatsink would sit on top, but the brakcets wouldnt sit right at the bottom cause there was some components on the motherboard in the way. I think they were capacitors or something.

So should I try and reseat my current stock one? Or should I try and get a new one? Maybe the "Thermalright ULTRA-120 " my friend tells me its really good.
