E7200 Questions

Thread Starter
I have a few questions regarding my new E7200...

1. What is the Max voltage that these can be run at, I think I turned mine up to 1.3 to reach 3.4GHZ.

2. I am unsure about heat issues I seem to be having. High temps? running 46C IDLE @3.4GHZ@1.3v... and load is about 65c. My question is this: How long does it take for heatsink compound to fully bond or harden or whatever it is, I heard it takes a few days sometimes to reah full effectiveness and temps might drop by 2-3 degrees in that time? I had a hard time reseating my Cooler, and wonder if I used enough paste or maybe while situating the cooler disturbed the paste that I had put on there, maybe smearing it thin over the critical parts of the CPU.

3. What is the best multiplier to run this thing at, at one point when I first booted my bios said 9.5 ... now I'm just at 9... Any tips?

1. Max volts for 45nm chips is 1.375 or something around that, I wouldnt go above 1.32

2. Use realtemp to measure your temps, also depending on your thermal paste you used to install there will be a cure time ( about a week or so ) and temps should drop 1-5c

3. I run using 9.5 multiplier just to take some stress off the motherboard. the .5 should be under fine tune or something similar to that.

well, I took your suggestion and loaded up real temp, the temps on realtemp are 10c Cooler than what I was getting on coretemp... Weird. I have tried realtemp in the past, but switched back to coretemp. I'm not sure what to trust!

Realtemp by default has the correct settings for a 45nm chip, every other temp reader will show temps 10c higher.

That's interesting... I'd never seen that before. I'm glad you pointed that out to me, now I can overclock in confidence... I'm hitting 32c at stock clock speeds which is impressive, almost 8-10c cooler than my e4300 at stock (I was lucky on a cold night to see 39c). Thanks for the tips, now I feel more confident overclocking! +rep

What would a good FSB voltage be to get to 3.6+

On my board it runs fine with no voltage increase to the FSB... I would add +.1v since it is going to be running at around a 1600mhz FSB.

Well, I am unstable at more than 3.5 right now. I'm not sure what the problem REALLY is, but I can't complain, I have a 1ghz overclock so far, and was only able to do 2.6-3ghz on my e4300 until recently. I'm happy as a clam if this thing is running at 3.4GHZ sub 40c idle

Before upping the vcore up the FSB and the MCH (north bridge) by .2 and see if things stable out.

3.6 is still a dream for me. I can post, but BSOD on my way into windows. That's with a 1.3 or even 1.3vcore ... maybe 1.5 or 1.6 FSB... and like a 1.6V northbridge. Maybe voltage isn't the problem? I can turn everything way down and hit 3.5 and it's stable so far. I wonder if this is a sort of "hole" that is bespoken of in certain places.
