tbh i don't think this card is enough to fight off the 4850, especially if it [the 4850] can be had for $150 or so after rebates... and with price drops and driver improvements, the card is only going to be better in bang-for-buck...

Nvidia's new offerings cost a small fortune to own and they only show small increases in performance. I hope the price/performance beating ATI's giving them now lights a fire under nvidia's posterior.

The only way for NVIDIA to become/remain competitive on price is to shrink the manufacturing process.

Smaller chips cost less to make per chip, and there is less waste.

I've actually been wondering when this will happen, I was hoping it would by the end of June but it didn't. The GT should be around 140 pushing the 9600GT to 120, before rebates. Which would push 3850/3870 down also ($100/120ish). ahhhhh ... back to the real world though.
