8800 GT Diablo 3 Speculation - Should i upgrade now?

Thread Starter
Ok so im doing a huge PC makeover, starting out with a new vid card, cpu & psu of course. However im mainly doing it in preparation for Diablo 3 most likely coming out next year. Im just curious to know what all you blizzard junkies think the system req's will roughly be. Did year old hardware run WoW once it came out? Does blizzard usually use the last year of development time on graphics or gameplay? All these are questions i cant answer myself. Im hoping someone out there can.

Im getting a 8800 GT tomorrow & wanna know if YOU think its too early to be upgrading for a blizzard game this far in advance.

Opinions are much appreciated

If it was me i would wait until release time to upgrade as for what you pay for now you will get something twice as good in that time period

Blizzard is known for not making massive requirements on its games. I would guess that an 8800Gt would be safe.

If your planning for next year, wait til then to make a move..
otherwise the 8800GTS 512 is a great card for the price right now. include a SLI board in ur upgrade path and 2 GTS' will handle most of what will be comming in the future...

But next year is upgrade time again IMO so......... I would be leaning more towards the 2XXGTX then, who knows what the prices will be, and what else will have been released.

If you are planning for Diablo III, I would wait till a month or two before the game comes out to upgrade. If you think you need the upgrade now, just get the 8800GT then sell it in a year.

I just have a golden opportunity to upgrade right now, its kinda like a now or never type deal. Long story, anyway with Diablo II selling 7 million to date i really beleive Diablo III will be the game to pull alot of (atleast hardcore gamer) WoW addicts off the WoW wagon to the Diablo universe, and Blizzard is probably expecting that. So what i wanna know is... does anyone remember what the hottest video cards out at the time of WoWs release were?

When wow came out, you could easily run the game on a geforce 5200. I had a friend who played it on a geforce 4. The best card at the time was the geforce 6800.

If you have the money to upgrade now then go ahead and do it. There is never a perfect time to upgrade considering how fast technology moves in today's world, so you might as well just get what you want and be happy with your decision. How much do you have to spend on upgrades and what resolution do you plan on playing at?

I'd say your current system will most likely handle the game easily. If you want to upgrade for a game you'll probalby have to find another one, blizzard never forces the use of cutting edge systems for great gameplay.
