Computer died

Thread Starter
I was just using my computer when suddenly the screen went black and the motherboard made a long beep, so I restarted it but all it does is make the same long beeping noise then stops, then beeps again. Does anyone know what could've happened, is my motherboard dead?

How many seconds does it beep for - Edit: is it only one beep or one followed by more. Also what bios does your system have?

Is all your hardware connected up properly, including memory sticks and graphics cards etc?

unplug everything but ur primary HD snd 1 stick of ram and give it a try.

do you have 2x1gb or a single 2g stick of ram.. you may wana try swapping it around..

Also pull battery and let sit for a few hours if nothing above works..

I have 2 x 1Gb of Corsair XMS2, I just realised my mobo has the diagnostic LEDs so I'll take a look at what that says, maybe it will shed some light.

EDIT: Gets stuck on C3, but now its not beeping anymore, but I'm not getting any signal to the display.

Try with one stick of RAM, and then the other - could be curropt RAM.

Though it could also be a Graphics card failure. I would test that as well.

I've got it working to an extent, i took the second stick of ram out, started it up, it worked, turned it off, put the second stick back in, started it up again, it still worked, i got into windows but my wireless card isnt working anymore, i tried turning it off, took the card out, turned it on, then off again, put the card in again turned it on, got into windows and then it bluescreened me.

@ blank it hasnt been OC'd for ages, the bios keeps resetting and i cbf'd ocing it because i know after a few restarts it will reset again.

I have a feeling i just have a pile of junk mobo because it keeps giving me tonnes of problems.

This to me sounds like a hardware issue - nothing major. If you have the time i would set the motherboard on - add CPU, One stick of RAM, HDD and GFX card - check it all powers and works well - maybe even try it will prime 95 or something. Stress it out a little. Then i would start adding other components one at a time - doing the same routine of testing. Through trial and error you should discover the faulty part...
