I know that this CPU will run (and fold) @ 3.5 (500 x 7), so I have some twiddling-about to do.

I'm not a great OC'er as it is, but the BIOS for this board is really rather extensive. It will take some time for me to get it all sussed out.

Any advice or experience is greatly appreciated.

But, for now I am really rather pleased.

Oh! ...and I can't wait to try the QX6850
I am glad to see that I am in good company, as far as being overwhelmed by this BIOS. Of the many systems I have built, this is only the second I have OC'd. I am getting used to the layout of this new setup, but the number of options is vastly increased over my previous board and there are interdependancies I don't yet understand.

I have been subscribed to this thread from the beginning and I appreciate all the discussion. Perhaps I will narrow down my issues to a level where I can start to ask questions soon.

I do look forward to getting the most out of this monster over time.

I just test booted this mobo. I have to say that this board really impressed me with its features. Being able to power it on without any bs is great.

I found that that Enzotech slim SB cooler fits much better using the stock push pins. Not sure if others were having issues with the ones provided but they just wouldn't fit.

Also just curious if anyone could take a picture of the backpanel that was provided. I brought an OEM one and it did not come with this plate. (Or if anyone has an extra or knows of anywhere I can get my hands on one)

Or if anyone knows if the Maxiums Extreme backplate fits as well.

Here is an interesting pic. A guy from XS using an old friend of mine, the thermaltake extreme spirit II on the NB.

He indicated his idle is 41c and load 50c with nb at 1.5.

whats interesting about the picture is the clearance from the top pci slot. that means that a sound card could fit in there without issue.

One problem with the picture is that this fellow didn't bother with any kind of cooling on the SB.

I'm going to grab one and give it a go.

However, I have a fan that will fit nicely on the SB and can connect into my fan controller (it doesn't need to run full speed on the SB and is too loud at full regardless).

I just got my mb and E8500 all setup and started to overclock it a bit. My goal is 4ghz range on air. From what I have been reading it looks like I might have got lucky with my E8500 with a vid of 1.1125.

I just started overclocking this past month so I still learning. I just got used to the DFI BIOS but now I am lost again. Any settings I need to turn off or on by default for this MB? Anyone else running a E8500 that might have some settings I should try that could get me at 4ghz but also keep my core volts in a safe range?

I see this MB came with some software to overclock in Windows... Does anyone use that?

I just put together my rampage forumula q9450 system. I installed a Xigmatek HD-S1283 and I have to say it was the worst experience installing a cpu cooler I have ever had. The push pin design was horrible and did not want to go into the motherboard and stay down at all. I finally got them all down, but I know that if i tugged on it a bit at least 2 would probably pop off again. Has anyone else had this problem?

I am also a little unsure about all the bios options. I installed the latest 0403 bios. I want to push the Q9450 up from 2.66 to somewhere around the 3-3.2 range. Has anyone here had experience with them? What speeds are people seeing without upping the cpu voltage over stock? I am sorry for all the questions. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Yeah the push pins suck IMO. I have the same cooler and it was a pain in the ass on my last system. I ended up ordering this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233019 and it was SOOOOOO much better when I installed it on this MB.

Leave the multi at 9.5

set your FSB to 425

set your ram to its stock voltage (check the maker site).

disable Loadline Calibration

set your vcore to 1.3625 in the bios (never use windows overclocking). this is the maximum safe vcore intel recommends. you can probably dial it down once you get stable.

leave the ram settings on auto for now.

Are use using Coretemp .99.1? It shows a different VID for 45nm chips than the older versions do.

Once you are up and running, run orthos for an hour or so. If its stable and temps are within reason, go into the bios and lower vcore 1 notch. test again.

keep doing this until you have lowered it to the point where it fails orthos. then up it back up to the level that worked.

then do a full 8 hours of orthos.

If it passes that you are good to go.

you can then play with ram timings and see if you can tighten them a bit.

With an 8x multi, all you need to do is set your FSB to 400. this will keep your ram at 1:1. test it will stock voltage. I'd recommend you disable Loadline calibration.

If it fails orthos, go into the bios and manually set vcore to 1.3625. then test. it should pass. then you can lower vcore 1 notch at a time (Testing at each step) until you find the lowest stable vcore that will pass.

keep an eye or your temps and run orthos for a minimum of an hour on each level.

btw, the latest beta bios for the board is 0408.

Hmmm, I considered attaching a spirit II on the NB as well(I have a few collecting dust). I just didn't think they would work too well since they do not cover the entire NB. Keep us posted with results.

What core temp should I be using? Mine says core temp deta .99.

Also should I change the northbridge settings to something other then auto? Anything else that should be not set to auto in that tweek settings area?
