Is it just me, or is the 4870 a waste of money? - Page 2

The hotfix drivers make a huge difference in benches and actual gameplay. I reloaded the drivers yesterday while messing around and forgot to add the hotfix. I actually thought I forgot to enable crossfire.

Moved it, since people tend me "miss" the middle of the thread and though that was helpful for anyone interested on how they perform at the same clocks. Sorry for trying to be helpful

wasn't trying to be mean, but I only read what is new, so to me, it seemed like you posted it twice. The question still wasn't answered about whether or not it was hotfixed drivers.

Second, as mentioned those scores still seem a bit on the low side from the piles of other benchmarks that have been shown. The one thing I think is a bit of a downfall here is that it seems like you really need a fairly decent overclock on the CPU to get the most out of these cards.

Well, that is true, it could be the CPU holding the 4870 back. As for the hotfix, I believe he is using it (Driver version in GPU-Z is the same as mine and I am running the hotfix).

Here just a tidbit
http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=567799&page=2

I've been following that thread and the mem only makes a 7% difference but I forgot the exact specifications it might have been max freq.
But in short, it was a no brainer. I got my 4850 for 170 or something through new egg with free shipping *uhhg i have to file a rebate* and even if i go with a after market cooler, it'll be still quite a bit cheaper (free shipping, more tax on more expensive card, my cooling will still be better).

Oh yeah figure the 750mhz-625=125 then 125/625 is your 20% then 5% may account for the ram being faster.

I have these same curiosities about the 4850 and 4870's too. I don't want to waste money like i did on the $500 evga 8800gtx when they first came out. The 8800gts would have been fine for me.
500 bucks.... 2 years later and still a good performer for most of today's games... I don't see where you wasted money?
