P5N32-E Blown - Need M/B Recommendation...

Thread Starter
Well, I managed to blow my P5N32-E 680i board, won't even pass a POST test anymore, let alone let me back into the BIOS. I've got an RMA started with ASUS for a repair - not a replacement, the board is decommissioned and they're out of stock - but there's a small chance that it might come back as "damaged" being the cause and not being a free repair.

As such, I'm probably just going to pick up a spare board now so that I'm not another couple months without my machine... having spent the last two without it already.

I'm pretty open to ideas, doesn't need to be an nVidia chipset, I'm probably going to donate my other 8800 GTX to my wifey's rig anyways. I'm just looking for the best possible m/b for my Q6600 at this point.

---
** My one caveat/concern is that my two drives are currently on a RAID 0 stripe using the onboard nVidia RAID controller and I have no idea if I were to put those drives onto another RAID controller if it would be able to read them. Or, to put it plainly, I am uninformed if the drives become "tied" to the specific RAID controller when they're configured...

As always, any advice, ideas, etc. would be most appreciated.

The RAID is indeed an issue of concern. This basically limits you to a board with the same southbridge/RAID controller as the Asus board.

Do you know anyone who has a P5N32-E SLI and lives close to you? If so, I'd buy a drive large enough to copy your data over, and ask that friend to use his computer to do so. This is one reason why I always recommend a single drive for the data (at least as a backup).

It's either that, or another 680i board. Newegg has the P5N32-E SLI for $170 open box, which I think is an outrageous price. Here is one for sale for $125... http://www.overclock.net/sale/345174...ds-sale-2.html

And here an eVGA.. not sure if that one is still available:

If you decide for the extra hard drive, and copy the data...then all option are open. Let me know.
