Noob in need of help (Flashing BIOS)

post #1 of 2
Thread Starter
I want to upgrade my cpu from a 4200 to a 5400 and apparently I need to flash my bios. Problem is, I have never done it before so I am completely clueless even after looking it up on google. My motherboard specs are as follows:

Operating System - Vista
Product Name - Aspire E380
Manufacture - ACER
BIOS Version - 6.00PG
BIOS release date - Dec 29, 2006

Motherboard = MCP61PM-AM

Only thing I know how to do is access my BIOS but from there on I have no idea. Would really appreciate the help.

First thing I assume that since you mentioned you want to update your bios that you either have the new one that you obtained by downloading it from the manufacturer website or got from someone.

If you can go to the manuf. site and download the update software from them...which may help you in flashing and installing the new bios.

You will likely need to put the new bios on either a floppy or a cd....though since some bios only read certain format you should use a floppy disk.

In your bios you can both flash and install your new bios...however you should make sure that you have the proper image of bios file before flashing...this is best done by using an update program from the manufacturer site.
