That would make sense. But the 4870 is suppose to have a power draw of 157, which is why they just barely had to go with 2 6 pin. Something is screwy here.

that's funny. But yeah, i find it strange that crossfired cards don't double the power consumption. that made me

Dam right. Apparantly that HD4870 is drawing 250W at load, and thats just a single card... Surely that means Crossfired HD4870's should be running at around 609W in this case?!?!

Also, I like how they conveniently left out SLI multiple card tests for the nVidia cards. Why is there so much nVidia/ATi fanboy influenced BS data floating around like windy turds these days?

but that won't drop the load consumption

generally they can't get both cards to perform 100% by a stress test,3870x2's power consumption was all over the place in the recent reviews.

from what i heard gddr5 was supposed to save energy, the way gddr4 cut down on the power consumption.

edit:good to see my old 6200tc up there too,32W monster

Would have liked to see a HD3870 thrown in there, instead of five nvidia cards...

I'm a little shocked by the numbers, as the GTX280 has a die that's easily 60% bigger than the HD4870. I hope ATI can fix this, because I see it as a serious problem.

Yes it will as Cat 8.6 applies a to high Core Voltage.

legitreviews.com tested the HD4870 around 169/276 Watt (of cause full System) with Cat 8.7 .

[EDIT]
The point arn't the values itself as their System may be a little different but the difference between idle and load is way better ....

That and I call BS on the GTX 280 power consumption. It's a lot higher than that.

QFT... How can the GTX280 have a lower idle and lower load power consumption than the HD4870?!?! If that is truly the case, perhaps it might actually be easier to power a theoretical GTX280 X2.....
