Thread Starter
Wow some of you guys are really mean lol. I am by no means *****ing and moaning that I'm outdated. I'm just stating the sad truth that the pc world is a very fast moving one.

I don't mind...all I play are Valve Games, and I encode/rip CD's occasionally. My system is probably much faster than what I need, and my old 939 / X1950pro setup (that I pawned off eons ago) would've been plenty.

Not at all. But then again I ran a 7800GT with an E6300 until this past January, so I am very happy with the current rig. I always miss a cycle or two or three lol, because IMO the newer gear, while better, doesn't justify the price increase.

When I upgrade I want to see a dramatic increase 50% or better.

I don't think that the last time I bought a car I was expecting it to top out at 200mph though. lol... I agree I don't think the prices are always justified, hence I stick to mostly budget parts, and now I am learning to let some time pass after new parts come out... ::glances at his $300 9800GTX::

Yes, but there are too many corners for me to look around nowadays. Wait until Intel jumps in with their cards. Talk about a battle royal. There will be a card a week coming out probably. I just buy according to my needs now. My current card plays whatever game I have well enough right now on my 1680x1050 monitor. Until it doesn't, I'll keep it.

I'm with ya..... I don't see a need to upgrade to the 48xx series cards..

My new rig when done will have 3 or 4 3870's in it depending on which MB I use.
The Asus M3A32-MVP or MSI K9A2 Platinum.

I don't have the kind of money necessary to feel outdated. lol. I applied to 17 places and didn't get a job. That's what you get for being 16, am I right? Doesn't matter though. 6 years from now people will be asking me to work for them. Once I get my med degree i'll start my own practice. Won't be working for ANYONE! (cept my clients, lol)

I don't, because I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon and waste my money on a new card that isn't going to give me better results. I don't care about benchmarks, I care about gaming, and my current card still maxes out all the games I play, and getting a 4-series isn't going to help me at all. I'd rather wait for the prices to drop and get a new card once my current is starting to fall behind, performace-wise.

Edit: mth91, add a couple of years onto your estimate there, lol. I'm looking to go into med school, as well.

From personal experience, the platinum looks sexy with 4 3870's on it

When my wife would blow dry her hair in my office just to get me off the damn computer and get ready to go out( ie:stop playing games and go shower) I would set all 4 3870's to 100% fan speed and shut her up.
