Intel/CF mobo for e8400/e8500: p35, p45, x38, x48?

Thread Starter
I'm gunna be picking up either an e8400 or e8500 in the next month or so as I am going to school in September and I need a computer for the course I'm taking. I will probably use my current CPU and motherboard (Q6600 B3, P5K Premium) for the school system because I've had them for a while, they will be perfect for my needs at school and I want something new for my gaming rig. I will be running the system with 4X1GB Ballistix Tracers DDR2-1066 (haven't OC'ed all 4 sticks yet, but 2X1GB can hit 1150MHz no problem).

I want an Intel chipset and the potential for a Crossfire configuration so I'm look at another P35 board or one of the other current Intel offerings (P45, X38 or X48). The processor will be watercooled and obviously I want to OC the CPU as far as possible.

I've had ASUS and Gigabyte motherboards in the past and while my most recent ASUS has really impressed me, I'd like to try a different, more enthusiast-oriented brand for this next mobo... so DFI is looking like my best choice.

At $257, right now I am considering this board: DFI Lanparty LT X38-T2R

I'd like to keep the price around $250, but I might be willing to stretch that as my gaming rig is more important than my school rig! Which chipset would be best for OC'ing this CPU? Thnx

EDIT: For ~$30 more, DFI's X48 board is also available from NCIX.

Either DFI board is an excellent choice. No worries there

The X38/X48 is the better choice for you given that crossfire will run at X16, X16, whereas the P35/P45 has more limited bandwidth.
