Hello to all

Thread Starter
It appears that this is one of the premier OC/PC Enthusiasts sites out there, if not the premier.

I have been a PC hobbiest since 1984. I started off using my fathers Atari 800 PC when I was a child, and enjoyed playing cartridge games and eventually 5 1/4 disk games on it. Right around 1986, my father brought home two AT&T PC-6300 PC's, which were amazing. They were 8086 powered systems with CGA graphics and a color monitor! Wow those were incredible times. As time passed on, I continued to enjoy the fruits of my fathers labor, as he purchased a 386DX PC from Gateway, and then eventually a 486DX2 66 also from Gateway. Enter VGA/SVGA graphics, and a sound card, things were looking good in the computer world.

The next step was joining the world of the pentiums, with a Overdrive upgrade for the 486DX2 66. Eventually I was old enough to earn my own money, and it was time to buy the big daddy and have the best PC in the house. I purchased a Pentium II 233mhz system, also from gateway, and started to realize that I had an inherit interest in computers, and wanted to do something with them as a career.

By 1998 I decided to begin working for a company that manufacturered PC's. I started out building white-boxed OEM systems from the ground up. After a couple of months of assembling the PC's, I was promoted to OS/Software loader. Let me tell you, loading 40-50 systems a day with a nice mixture of Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, and DOS, got boring in a hurry.

As they always seem to do, machines would fail at my workstation and would require for me to investigate the issues. The head of the department took notice and decided after several months of doing Software loading that I would be best suited to work in the Diagnostics department, where all of the repair of new PC's came. I spent my days diagnosing and replacing defective hardware in the new PC's and testing them until they were solid as a rock.

After a couple of years of doing Diagnostics work, I was promoted to do the ever dreadful job of answering the technical support line. I tended to the tech phone for roughly 3 years, assisting everyone from end-users with no computer experience to IT professionals working in server rooms. I was able to provide them with the troubleshooting experience that I gained from the workbench over the phone.

Eventuall manning the tech phone was no longer the challenge that I was looking for, and I decided to move on to get my hands dirty in the wonderful world of Linux. I started working as a junior system administrator at a company. All of their employees ran on thin clients, that connected up to x-servers. This introduced a whole new method of running a client PC from what I was used to. No more bad hard drives, no more ball bearings wearing out in fans. This I felt like was the most challenging job that I had faced since I began working in the IT field professionally. I truely loved this job.

As time went on, it was time for me to relocate, and I was no longer able to continue working at that job, so I ended up working for a Fortune 50 company doing Desktop Support, and that is where I am today. It was a step back technically from where I was doing the server/thin client support, but it allowed me to get my foot in the door at a larger company, with hopefully a little more room to grow professionally.

Now, why does some desktop support nerd want to be around some overclockers geek hangout? Well, I do have an interest in PC power, and hope that I will be able to gain some important knowledge through the members of this site, and eventually be able to share my knowledge.

I just recently purchased components to build a new box from the ground up (sans the chassis). I'm excited about learning the newer methods of overclocking, since the last attempts that I had at overclocking was back when I was running a Pentium III 450 processor on an Intel 440BX chipset.

As far as my other hobbies, they include R/C car racing and modeling, PC Gaming, Linux, and South Western Cooking.

Looking forward to talking with all of you!

Welcome aboard! Fill in the system specs under User CP when you get a chance. If your new rig is still under construction, just note that in the name and advice will come much quicker should you ever need it =)
