Hopefully they'll continue that trend in knocking prices down on their unbelievably overpriced cards.

In that senario the 4870X2 absolutely murders the GTX 280 in performance and price. In the end consumers win.
You guys just made my point for me.

And "price and performance" is wrong. Price yes. Performance, no.

You're talking about a card that isn't even on the market. Wait and see. It should murder the 280GTX, if it doesn't it's a massive flop. But, the point is, it's not even on the market.

EDIT:

And just let's say that whe it comes out, it murder the GTX, why does it take two 4870's to our perform a single card, err, card?

I'm a 21 year old man. No.

The only point I'm trying to make is that almost the entirity of the internet is being downright retarded. The HD4870 performs well and it's very affordable, but that doesn't make it the best. The best is the best and that happens to be the 280GTX. Saying anything else is the best other than the 280GTX is a fallacy.

I'm looking to buy a new, top end card, within 6 months. So you can bet your arse I'll be watching the results of this silly little war. But as it stands, I trust the Japanese with computer chips more than I do the Americans. But we'll see who "wins"

EDIT:

Just to add a little clarification. I own an Nivida 8800GT simply because back in November it was one of the only cards touted to be able to run Crysis well (it even came with Crysis) not because I have OCD.

My friend just bought a GTX 280 and the card is sexy but for what he paid he could of just crossfired 2 4870s and been better off. i told him this but he had to have the best card .

people are touting the 4870 because of its price point and its performance. to say that the GTX 280(single die-wooooh) is a better option than crossfired 4870s or a 4870X2 (even if it is two chips on one PCB) is just silly.

yes the GTX 280 is a stonger single card but who cares?

Well, I'm talking about single card vs single card. SLI and Crossfired cards generally do beat single cards. That's obvious.

My point is that "price and it's performance" is all fine and well when you're on a budget. But you have people that can afford to splash out and will do. They post about their card and 20 people tell them they should have bought a 4870. These people should shut up about their cheap well performing card and leave the people with more expensive and better performing card to it. I'm finding it highly irritating to have to watch. Some people touting the 4870 make valid points, strangely, those people also rant, whine and harass much less than the rest, who basically want to, deep down, laugh at you for buying a better card. Or they'll post a thread on 20 forums showing one instance of a benchmark that shows the HD4870 out performing an Nivida card and the thread title reads "ATI WINNER" or something daft like that. It's also know quite well as "bandwagonism"

Also, I'd be pretty pissed off if I'd bought a 280GTX last week =D

A sinlge 4870 will not beat a GTX 280 but 2 will woop it for less money(as of right now anyway).

i hope i didnt come across like that but i understand what your saying.

and yes, my friend is pretty pissed off about buying his card last week. He got the "I told ya so" from me.
