[Fud] nVidia to drop 280/260 price tomorrow 7/3! - Page 8

You definately didn't come across as the fanism thing. However, almost all of the internet is in a hysterical buzz about these cards =D

And I'd need a new mobo to have two 4870's. Which would mean bye bye £180 brand new Asus board...no way!

i think its fair to say that the HD4XXX is kicking ass all the way to santa clara. nad yes the 4870X2 isnt out yet but since AMD hasnt let itself down with the 4850 or 4870 i'd expect it to continue the trend and keep pounding on nvidia. theyve dropped the price on the GTX280 and the 4870X2 isnt even out yet. why? they know now that it is going to do a job on them. and its not like they can create a new gpu right now to compete with AMD. all this argument would be moot if the GTX280 was 50% faster across all benchmarks than the 4870 but it beats it by ~10% in some and loses in others and its more than twice as expensive. street price of the 4870X2 is supposed to be about $500 but if it really demolishes the GTX280 dont expect that to hold. when its all said and done nvidia got lazy. they underestimated the red team and are now getting a right pounding.

Price war great for us but i can not see ATI dropping prices until Nvidia closes the price gape a lot more, With the Nvidia price drop there is no need for ATI to drop prices as they are still in the clear with the price to performance ratio, Why would ATI drop prices when they are still winning, that would be a silly move on there part to cut profits.

Nvidia dropping prices is great news. lets hope it continues to a point where it forces ATI to drop there prices but that looks a long way off yet if at all.

EDIT:

And just let's say that whe it comes out, it murder the GTX, why does it take two 4870's to our perform a single card, err, card?
4870X2 is a single card solution as is the GTX 280, that is how consumers will look at it. We are on a enthusiast website therefore we know that the 4870X2 is two GPUs on one card, but to the average consumer the 4870X2 is just a single card priced around $500 and the GTX 280 is $650. Assuming the 4870X2 murders the GTX 280 at a cheaper price, which card do you think, consumers will spend their money on?

Not really, most P35 motherboards feature PCI-E 1.1 released back in early 2007, support CrossFire and the new PCI-E 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.1.

most consumers don't know or care about benchmarks most care about name brand and hands down more people know nvidia due to being used in more desktops and note books

One example

Do you think kicker subwoofers are better them DD? Which one kills which in comps? Which one do consumers buy though? Easy kicker...

I think it's surprising that new cards don't cost more than they do. The past few years, decent new single processor cards averaged in the $300 price range (ie, 7XXX series) and the dual processor GX2's were in the $600 range.

The GTX280 is a completely new generation of graphics having physics processing built into it. Would I spend $600 on one video card? I did for my 7950GX2 years ago and it's still a great card, it's just not DX10. I think if the GTX280 was able to play Crysis at 50fps maxed out it would be worth the $600. 2 of them in SLI will do it at a decent res, so when they come down to ~$300 ($600 for 2) I will probably go for it. That should last me a few years I hope.

rofl you mean to tell me that putting a graphics card in excess of $400 isn't selling well especially when your top of the line card sells in upwards of $600. OMG WOW lol. Usually their prices stay the same for quite a while but I guess when the competition actually produces, it makes ya a little edgy.
