Not true. Companies like Walmart often sell certain items below cost to beat out the competition. (they also expect to make a bit back by other items purchased from people when they go into the store) While I do not think nvidia can drop their prices that much more (they still need to make some profit, no matter how small) I think they are willing to sacrifice some money to keep their name, and cards, in the market.

I am not surprised at this. It looks like nvidia got blind-sided (whether they deserve it or not is another question) All I care is that I can get a amazing card for <$300.

And I'd need a new mobo to have two 4870's. Which would mean bye bye £180 brand new Asus board...no way!
What the heck is wrong with people like you? You call other's fanboys for stating facts that the 4870X2 will likely murder the 280 GTX or other crap you deem "pro" ATI. Most people who are saying this card is going to be awesome are using nVidia cards. How does that make them fanboys?

Now I assume you'll be calling me a fanboy, so I'll save you the trouble, I used nothing but nVidia cards all my life, every computer I have had has a nVidia card, including my laptop.

People are hypocrites; calling others fanboys when they are that very definition. Its apparent that nVidia is in defensive with dropping prices of their cards. Even still, ATI has made it look like nVidia is twice the price for less than 10% performance gains. Gotta love it, more competition is better for the consumers. ;]
