yeah, cool. thought so.

my PS3 didnt brick on the update anyway, but its good to know i dont have to stress about my save files.

the firmware update shouldnt affect HDD data.
There's a possibility that could fix the problem. It also might depend on the SKU you have. I have a feeling on the 60GB model, the firmware isn't stored on the HDD, because when I replaced the HDD, I didn't have to reload the firmware. BUT, when I replaced the HDD on my 40GB, I had to reload it. Those two model have the same inerds but are built different, from the way the HDD goes in to the disc drive. Like the 40GB sucks the disc in as it spins it, the 60GB sucks it straight in.

@Elmike

yeah, well i have the 40GB. i think its a good idea to backup the data now and then anyway, just in case the PS3 decides to brick itself for no reason at all.

@ Licht

my guess is the people that had the problem either downloaded a corrupted firmware update, or somewhere along the line of it installing something happened and it stuffed up. its actually flashing the update on, like flashing a motherboard bios.

we all know that its pretty risky, even when its official.

I just upgraded my friend's 40gb model today, did not have to load his logon info or the firmware.
