GPU n00b

Thread Starter
I have decided that my sig rig needs a better GPU. I don't have a lot of money and I am not up to speed with new cards. The last time I knew what I was doing with regard to video cards was when the Voodoo2 came out with the original SLI mode.
Any helpers?

I'm doing a build for someone and I will either be getting $100 or $175 depending if he buys my sig rig card so that's what I will have.

ok so the build is done. i didnt end up selling him my card. couldnt get it to play nice with his board. so instead, he met me halfway given the amount of time and trouble i went to trying to make it work. i now have $140 in cash and I'm strongly considering going to Fry's and getting this:

or this

which one would be my best choice for the money or is there another option im not seeing? I want to play crysis even if its on lowest settings. my eyes cant see the difference anyway. i just want a good card that wont be a POS like my 8400GS is

Crysis low:

Crysis high:

I donno, I see a pretty gargantuan difference between those two pics. Get a 4850, it can run crysis on very high on your monitor.

Wait, are you going to be playing any games?

Get the 4850! It's $170, and a 500w psu will support two 4850's, not to mention one!
