[tgdaily] Study claims Windows usage market share could fall below 90% soon - Page 2

Yep, Bill Gates retires, next day microsoft is going in the toilet. Any minute now and they'll go bankrupt.

If they go below 90% marketshare, they DEFINITELY can't be considered a monopoly, right?

please, enough with the defending apple ****.

I use Linux. if you don't play games, use Linux. not OS X. there is no reason for using OS X but to have an apple fanboy orgasm. LOL, my friend got a macbook and he installed linux on it because of how sick he got of annoying OS X.
I'll stop defending OS X when people stop attacking it. I use linux also. I have it on my desktop and it's a pleasure to use. For my laptop (which is primarily for work) I wanted something with a UNIX base that wouldn't break once a month (if you don't break your linux install regularly you aren't playing with it enough). Beyond compiz, what does linux offer that OS X doesn't?

Macs aren't suited for gaming though. They're more the "media center" type

fair enough, but you don't agree at least that it is a valid point? (that OS X doesn't play many games) at least, if for nothing else, the growing PC gaming market? (by PC i mean personal computer of course)

True however unlike other OS's you don't *always* need to reinstall/format, you can go into console mode and fix the system files whose settings you were messing around with (i.e-xorg.conf when you try to get a specific res or something)

ALSO, remember you can use UNIX itself. These distros are VERY stable and even if you play with them, unless you really purposefully break your OS for fun (which you probably won't do lol) these OS's are amazing in terms of stability: FreeBSD, NetBSD, anythingBSD, Solaris, etc.

the ability to get a good quality, Unix-based, secure, fast, efficient, very stable OS *which both of them are* WITHOUT PAYING FOR IT (cheaper hardware, MUCH cheaper software). Macs aren't overpriced when you look at how they value the OS...then you realize you can have linux for FREE.

Plus, um, WinE Bringing a linux gaming rig to a LAN and showing it off to ppl owns. (ya im a geek so waht)

Of course. There are a few common myths on this forum, though. One of them is that the enthusiast market is anything substantial. A second one is an extreme overestimation of the importance of games in the computer industry.

True. When something goes wrong there is a much greater chance that it will be fixable in linux than for any other system. I do a lot of playing though

Anything that runs on linux will run on OS X as well. Personally, I like the hardware and I like OS X. I use linux as I've said, but for a system that gives me UNIX without the overwhelming urge to tweak every last thing I went for an Apple.

That's not the question you need to be asking, since Linux is not the one carrying the $200 price premium.

EDIT: Forgot about the "Apple hardware tax, it's not like just buying an OS.
