Party at Adobe Systems tonight as the company can now brag with the fact that its child prodigy, the PDF - Portable Document Format has become an ISO standard. Officially dubbed ISO 32000-1, the 'new' standard is based on the 1.7 revision of PDF, which has been developed by Adobe and offered to the International Organization for Standardization which now has control over it and is in charge of updating the standard and developing new versions of it.
"By releasing the full PDF specification for ISO standardization, we are reinforcing our commitment to openness", said Kevin Lynch, Chief Technology Officer at Adobe. "As governments and organizations increasingly request open formats, maintenance of the PDF specification by an external and participatory organization will help continue to drive innovation and expand the rich PDF ecosystem that has evolved over the past 15 years."
