Are you sure that's 100% stable? I dropped voltage down to 1.325 and the system would hang at windows boot (just after it loads from HDD to memory), various other voltages around there hang aswell.

Is that the vcore that you have set in your BIOS because mine is set to 1.40625 in BIOS right now and various desktop programs tell me it's 1.32v.

Hopefully I can stable out @ 1.40625v.

I've put about 40+ hours of call of duty 4 in the last month on this clock, as well as all the usual browsing, newegg addiction, etc. I would call it stable - it can do orthos with no problems.

EDIT: BIOS vCore is 1.3375 with vDroop making voltage 1.31 idle and 1.29 Load.

The 45nm CPUs are not as weak as so many seem to think. The Q9450 will easily take 1.45v 24/7. I have even done 1.55v for suicide runs. The 45nms have had as much as 1.9v pumped through them on LN2 for short periods of time and lived to tell the story (with no reduced overclock either).

You're on air though, so I would watch your temps.

rpm666:
You've got a sweet CPU to do 3.964GHz with 1.31v! Mine takes close to 1.5V to be fully stable at that speed!

I guess it is just the insane vdroop on the 790i Ultra, have it set to 1.40625v and it's using 1.38v idle / 1.32v load; my mistake. Thanks for the info. 003 that's really useful, this is my first time with a Q9450 and the 45nm made me think I should keep the voltage way low but I guess 1.45v is pretty good.

Gives me 0.5v of safe headroom to hopefully take it higher (3.8-4GHz anyone?). I know I am on air but it seems alright so far (doesn't seem to be going any higher than high 50's) and will probably upgrade to WC at some point.

I tried doing that to my Q9450 to 3.0GHz with unlinked RAMs @ stock settings

@stock voltage-Vista wont even begin booting
@1.2500v- Vista crashes (reboot) on the scrolling logo
@1.275/1.30v- crash (BSOD) right before hearing the startup sound
@1.2750v and NB 1.40v- crash right after the startup logo/sound

The 1.31v is for 3.87 stable.

For *ALMOST* 4GHz is closer to 1.4v - 1.37-1.39vCore and I can get 3.95 stable, but, I just clock it up high to see how high I can go I do plan on breaking the 4GHz mark with this board and chip!

Dang! I'm still going to look into it. On a last resort I'll try to RMA (although I doubt the store I got it from will give me a new one, since @ stock settings I get no issues)

OR... Updating my mobos BIOS might fix it (it still has the default bios from when I bought it). I'll see what I can do later when I get back home.
