If you play alot of games go for the AD700
If your more into listening to music or movies the HD555's are more suited.

I've only read so-so reviews about those particular Sennheisers. Although I've never actually heard them, the wide-open design suggests that they're more ideal for watching movies, and not so much for listening to music or games.

Audio Technica makes a good headphone, and the frequency response on the AD700s are really good. I'd give them a shot.

You might also look at these:

<--- Solid Sennheisers with a good reputation.

<--- Professional monitor headphones, great for music and games as well, my personal favorites.

Highly debatable.

1) If anything, the Senns probably leak less than the AD700, which is also open design.

2) For movies some might prefer a pair of closed headphones which offer better immersion. And depending on the type of music you are listening to, open cans will have better soundstage and air (unless we're talking about something like the R10), and closed headphones generally offer more bass.

3) frequency response on paper doesn't mean much at all. The HD555 has the Sennheiser house sound, it will be warmer and more laid back as opposed to the brighter and more forward sound of the AD700.

Both the HD555 and AD700 are great headphones. For jazz and classical I would pick the HD555, while for rock I'd more likely go with the AD700.

I got the AD700's a while back because I read reviews preferring them over the HD555. When I did have them, they were great for everything.

However, they were pretty bass anemic. For that reason, if I were buying a headphone in the $100 range today, I'd get M-Audio Q40's, which got a good review from a Head-Fi guy who does recables.
