Voltage Problems

Thread Starter
I have my CPU voltage set to 1.3875v in my BIOS. CPU-Z reports the voltage as 1.360v when idle. When running Prime95, the voltage drops to 1.328v, which is very interesting to me. Is my CPU telling me that it only needs 1.328v, or is there a problem with a BIOS setting. I have verified that all speedstep and other junk settings are disabled. I read all of the help in the BIOS. Is this normal or is something wrong? I have my CPU overclocked to 3.5GHz. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Specifications:
EVGA 680i SLI LT Motherboard
Intel Core2Duo Conroe E6750
Xigmatek HDT-S1283 Heatsink and Fan

PS: I DO understand there is a vdrop from what I set in the BIOS and to what it will really be, but the lower voltage during stress tests baffle me.

Its called vdroop, and is very common, but that is quite the drastic droop. Maybe check around and see if theres a mod for your board to stop this happening. There are pencil mods for some boards.

Check if your board has Vdroop control enabled.

I thought that vdroop meant it would drop the voltage when idle and raise it when being loaded. I learned something new today.

check the 680i overclocking guide in the Intel motherboards section, look at the pencil mod. I have done this mod to my board (same as yours) and my vcore never fluctuates under load.
