Computer turning off randomly and hard locking with high pitch sound HELP

Thread Starter
Had this issue two weeks ago. So, after replacing my power supply RMA'd through OCZ and them upgrading me to a new one.... (I thought my old one was faulty) Upon putting the new one in today and having my computer still locking up and shutting off... What does it mean????

What peripherals could be faulty and have the power to lock up the computer completely, with no bsod nothing in event viewer or crash dumps, sometimes accompanied with a fain high pitched tone coming from speakers..

To a random computer shut down, just complete power loss?

Well I know it's not the power supply... So.. What next?!

An unstable overclock can do that.

How thorough has been your stress testing?

Check you voltages in the BIOS. I have that MB and the issue I had was the CPU or SB voltage would freak out an spike causing lockups.
The CPU voltage wasn't the issue, the SB would always hit 1.72v and cause it even though it was only a 1.55v.
The 1.72v would show up in RED in the BIOS where all the system voltages are displayed.

Interesting, Duke.

Just seeking informed opinions here, but could those voltage spikes be indicative of insufficient cooling of the VRMs on the board? Or could it be a defect in the design of the voltage regulation system itself, not necessarily caused by cooling deficiency?

This just started happening about a month ago... I havent changed my OC for about 5 months. It's absolutely driving me nuts, Especially just waiting a week and a half for this new PSU to arrive and having my system down, only to have it happening again!!!

Duke: everytime i go into my bios the voltages are fine and I have yet to see them spike, however I'll keep an eye out for it.

Thats very odd.. hope the new PSU fixes the problem.

That's the thing, I got and put in the new PSU today and it didnt fix jack.
What has the ability to cause a hard lockup of the computer with no BSOD and even just completely shutting down the computer as if I pulled the plug? I'm kind of baffled

Taking a shot in the dark but could this have anything to do with ACPI being corrupted? Is there anything driver related that can cause this as well as hardware related?

What should I check next? memory?
