Computer turning off randomly and hard locking with high pitch sound HELP - Page 3

Check the temps in the bios. I had almost the same problem where the bios would show horribly high cpu temps, I shut off the automatic shutdown for the cpu temp and everything works now. It didn't give any high pitch sounds though.

This is just a shot in the dark but not to long ago i to had the same problem with total and complete hard crash. It turned out to be the older version of coretemp running in the system tray that brought my system down. Just a thought!!!! but if i incounter problems i always start backwards from the last thing i did.

Porschedrifter, just because the drives are new doesn't mean they are ok. Same goes with SMART. One of them could still be bad. It wouldn't hurt to run a diagnostic on the drives.

For the WD drives burn the Western Digital Lifeguard diagnostic tools to a CD and boot to it.

For your Samsung drive here is a link to their diagnostic tool: http://www.samsung.com/eu/business/s...tools_eng.html

For your Hitachi drive download the OGT Diagnostic tool.

For your Quantum drive, try out the Seagate Seatools.

These all should be downloadable images that can be burnt to a CD. It's always recommended to run a drive diagnostic outside of the operating system.

Good luck

My guess is that it is most likely the hard drive(s), which would explain the sound. I'd personally suggest testing them in another computer if possible. Or run those tests if you can still boot.

Sometimes computers will randomly shut of because of CPUs overheating. Another guess might be the motherboard. If you have concerns about your power supply, but it seems okay, it may have been that the power supply is actually bad and ruined your part or parts. A bad motherboard could also create problems for other parts.

Note that even if you test the hard drive using software, it may still be a motherboard or power supply problem ultimately. You need to do more than one type of test for a full diagnostic.

Curious, whats the 16.9G HDD?
Is it an IDE and paired with one of the other HDDs?
If its IDE and set up Master/Slave with another drive try removing it and see where that takes you.
Its unlikely but if that is the case, the 16.9G HDD will likely not be the same default transfer speed of the other HDD or possible an optical drive. Although it should only cause the other HDD to run at the slower transfer speed, some HDDs can have issues with that variation in transfer speed.

Really? Never knew that... The 16.9 drive is a very old quantum fireball, still chuggin along strong, I just use this for pictures and less important files, it's IDE and paired up with another HD. I actually have 3 IDE HD's but one of them along with one of my IDE optical drives have IDE>Sata adaptors.

I'm happy to report that since uninstalling Everest my computer has gone back to its stable status!!!
