I fail to see why is it a "power-draining disappointment". Yes the price if high and should be lowered, as for the power ATI solutions isn't that much power efficient and 4870X2 will take a power-hungry crown for sure from 9800GX2.

and if its just as forced as the gtx200 range was, very soon...

nvidia want you to see the blue of that screen of death in as much definition as possible!!

i see your point about the X2, but I was making reference to the (EDIT: high end) single GPU solutions...

EDIT: Damn, double post...

lol...brilliant...

if the 4870X2 is as good as what people are saying...
then the 300 series will be coming out sooner than later to combat it!
BUT..nvidia will need to seriously get a grip of their prices 1st before that races starts!!

i am saying the 300 series...could be called something completely different!

Hopefully this time, the 6-month refreshes will be called "GTX 270" and "GTX 290", rather than "GTX 360" and "GTX 380". (8900, 9900, where you at?)

arent they rumoured to be the 260b and 280b, something really simple but still likely to catch you out? besides, for gpu's like that, surely they'll need the next shrink as soon as possible?

I read on the inquirer that the rival dressed in red plan a 40nm shrink before Q1 2009, and that rival have been quite reliable with their dates recently...
