Don't know how I missed this, good read, thanks for sharing. Fold on.

I'm going to link my better half to this thread when she gets curious as to why I wanted to build another rig dedicated to folding.

probably genetic... I fold on GPU.... BOINC on CPU...diabetes is fasting growing disease in US...MILLIONS of us have it...course, I stopped drinking and lost 50 pounds which will help (still smoke the cheeba since it's decriminalized here in MA)

SETI, Enigma and LHC on BOINC

Folding is good, the other research is just as important though folks - lets not lose sight of that as well

SETI - aliens, quasars (possibly black holes too?) - bascially important astrophysics research
LHC - Quantum physics research - very important
Enigma - not so important to decode old WWII messages at this point - but will help with encryption research as well

Just to play the devil's advocate for a moment; the problem with folding is it increases co2 emmisions, which means you are hurting people in the future for saving more people now or to gain knowledge.

So I suggest you mainly fold at night, as that is the time where the power plants have leftover power.
Also fold for climate change research, as that is something which can really bring down our civilization - and if thats gone, it doesnt really matter how many diseases we can cure or whatever other folding causes there is.

On a side note, civilization will probably be brought down anyway when peak oil comes, and we didn't switch to sustainable sources in time, and at that point we won't have the energy to build-up those sources anyway.

so reuse, reduce and recycle people!

Honestly could care less about CO2. What uses it and are we at a level which is harmful to what uses it. Quick answer nope. Check it out your self though.

Don't feed into the global warming hysteria. When I was kid they were talking about the world going into an early ice age due to pollution. See a trend here. Science doesn't know. We haven't been here long enough to track it.

Also, the earth was hot, then cold, then hot, then cold, now hot again. See a trend in that.

Bump. Everyone should see this.
I fold for many friends around me who have lost family members to cancer.

I would also like to shoutout to OCN.

Get folding! Every little bit counts, so don't call it pointless!
Just fold while browsing the web. You don't have to have a monster dedicated folding rig to be a part of the team!

Lmao...True True.

As mentioned before there are other projects that take advantage of computing power just as Folding @ Home does. I think anyone wanting to look into Climate change ETC is on a good path. All these things are very important!

Keep up the great work guys. I really appreciate all the effort you guys make !
