Prime95 length?

Thread Starter
Should I just use the standard small FFT test with Prime95 or should I mimic the settings and use a custom one with a higher length so I can skip all the cycles and get right to maxing out my L2 cache while testing for 8-12 hours?

If so, what length should I be using to max out my L2 on a Q9450?

*Note: Posted this in CPUs because it is more related to my Q9450 than it is to Prime95 itself.

on my q6600 i run 4 interations of prime95 to test it.

two small FFT
two large FFT

12 hours minimum for stability testing.

less if i'm just looking for load temps.

edit:
you want to max out L2 cache?
run 4 small FFT's

So I shouldn't use custom lengths to max out the 12MB cache, just the standard small FFT testing in Prime95's torture tests?

you could if you know what to make them.

i just make 4 instances of it run, one for each core.

Alright, BTW you don't need 4 instances of Prime95 if you use the latest version which automatically stresses all cores, just mentioned that because you keep referring to running multiple instances as if manually.

well, i've always done that before so i just keep on doing that
SHH! i might as well donwload the new one thats probably been out for like a year.. lol

i still 100% loads, so i never looked for a new one.

edit: you still want to have 4 threads going though

Lol. Alright, anyways thanks for the replies. I think I am going to take this to 4GHz today and see what volts/temps it requires for stability.
