how?

In memory bandwidth terms..
512bit + GDDR3 = 256bit + GDDR5 as GeNjii- said

GDDR5 is better than 512bit bus

It costs less and has the same memory bandwidth

yeah, several articles do mention a $499 USD price tag believe it or not.

but is this a factory wholesale price or an actual retail/market value?

seems way too cheap i know. i wanna believe it, but we'll see. i'd believe $599 for sure.

That is not the case. Your memory on your motherboard is 128 bit, whens is that last time you saw that Windows could only use 128MB at any time?

Well they will tell you $499, but I don't believe them for a second. But they also will tell you it is only 1GB memory and it coming out in July.

also the 4850 and 4870 are the same core, they just put VDDR5 on the 4870 making way faster

That is a incorrect way of definition to describe bus width in relation to total video ram. The 256 bit bus when combined with the high speeds of GDDR5 produce a very high bandwidth, higher than cards using GDDR3 and 512 bit busses. It is this excellent combination which has contributed to lower prices as the lower bus width is cheaper to produce.

I want to see some benchmarks from the 4870 X2, and I would also love to see the 2 gig version vs the 1 gig version.
It's Disturbing

I'm really glad I don't plan to buy a video card until October at the earliest barring an unbelievably spectacular deal. I should probably hold out until the holidays and hope for even more savings.
