Quadro is crap!!! Nvidia decieved me :( - Page 5

Wish I saw this thread when it was still being talked about

Did you install the MAXtreme driver as well? The difference my Quadro's make in 3DS Max over the standard 8800 series is incredible... It's much snappier navigating around scenes and gives you a heck of a lot better idea of what the render will look like.

As far as Maya, the performance was a little less impressive... quicker? yes. mind-blowing? no. It does however get rid of the GeForce glitch when running two screens and Maya.

Ok so i have tried my best to figure this out and still no getting any better performance. It may just be a Rhino thing (the main program i use). 3ds is used RARELY. I removed the old drivers and installed the newest and still no luck. As for the Veyron vs Mustang bit, i agree. As far as ATI goes, i have heard that the 2900/3870/48xx series is amazing for OpenGL work even though they are gaming cards. Maybe its not the Quadro card that is the problem. Maybe my 8800gt is just so amazing that my quadro just can't keep up. Its possible since they use the same core i guess. The 88 is overclocked 100mhz and has double memory so its possible.

1 last thing, all this talk about support and drivers is crap and im not taking that one back. How is support any better than with GeForce? I cannot even directly contact nvidia about my GPU. It takes a day or 2 to get any kind of response from someone who knows anything at all. For what you pay for theyse things you would think that nvidia would fly a rep all the way from the home office to work on these things.

Its less so about talking to Nvidia than talking to the software companies. They give very good support to begin with, but alot of the "cutting edge" features are beta quality at best sometimes... having hardware comparable to theirs gives you a much better chance of making the software work.

And as far as the money to shell out for one of these cards... get real. when you pay in the 4 digits for the software, paying a couple of hundred more for a card that gets you better support and performance (i realize that this is debatable...)

jharvey, you may try bringing this particular topic to a 3d DCC topic as well.. you'll see that probably 70% of the threads are related to hardware issues, performance, etc.
