I was a true Vista-hater for the first year of Vista's life, but after jumping from 32-bit XP SP3 to Vista Ultimate x64 SP1, my mind has changed. With 4GB of RAM Vista x64 just flies (finally using it all!) and I have had very few compatibility issues with hard- or soft-ware. I was expecting lots...

That being said, I have never used any Linux-based OS so I cant really compare. That's something I gotta fix soon....

Well after all, the "large PC enthusiast forum" does believe that they are a significant portion of the overall computer industry... And that most people play games.... lol

XP is mostly minimalist (as much as one can say for a Windows operating system), while still being compatible with all my hardware. I run Linux as a secondary OS, as I refuse to compile C++ programs with Windows. There's nothing better than a proper command line sometimes.

Thread Starter
looks like vista 64 bit sp1 took a fairly large lead.

I think im gonna install xp 32 sp3 and vista 64 sp1 and maybe server 2008 to test its performance (the dx10 performance looks promising)

how would you guys like a thread comparing the frame rates in games and benchmark scores for the three of them?

I already told you it would be in the lead. That doesn't mean it will be the best choice. The best option in your list is XP x64 SP1, unless you have, or plan on getting more than two GPUs.
