I can't CrossfireX! HD3870 + HD2900XT - Page 2

It pretty much does work since it has been done before, I've read it somewhere (Possibly SS) and I've done it myself, My games where running flawlessly and my 3D Mark Scores improved.

When I first had my friends card and crossfired it with mine all I did was install Cat 8.5 and then it gave me that Dialog saying 'Found cards which can CFX blah blah promise I won't BSOD'

Woah guys, slow down, I'm running on 128kbps internet here :S

Anyhow the first time I crossfired I was using 1 bridge, this time I've tried 1 bridge, 2 bridges, still nothing.

The BSOD is some stop error, ATI2**** something something I don't know :S I'm not at home so I can't recreate the BSOD at the moment.

'Mixed Crossfire 2900XT/3870

Quote:
Initially we installed the 3870 as the card in the primary PCIe connector and the 2900 XT in the second 16x PCIe slot (CrossFire bridge also installed). In this configuration both cards were seen by Windows and the ATI installer reported successful install of the Catalyst drivers. After rebooting we checked device manager and although the cards were both listed the 3870 had a warning message beside it and was not fully working.

Before we gave up on this idea we decided to have one last attempt and switched round the cards so that the 2900 XT was the primary and the 3870 was the secondary. Once again both cards were recognised by Windows and once again the ATI installer reported success on driver install. We rebooted and to our surprise device manager reported both cards as working.
http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/3870-XXX/mixed.php

I am currently running two 2900XT's, but I can't use a driver version passed 7.10 because of a really weird error that I keep getting where every 3d app that I have causes the screen to hyperscroll and tear, it's like watching color television in the 50's. 7.10 works fine though. Point is that you might have to go further back.

Why the regret? With the price cuts getting another one won't set you back as much and think of the Vantage scores.

Also, two other things. The driver version from the article that I posted was Catalyst 8.43-1, and you list your mobo as "half broken." Might that have something to do with it?
