Stock market - NVIDIA dropped 50% in 2 days! - Page 3

Hey guys, let's not make it a 9800GX2 vs 3870 X2 discussion, the facts are known by everybody now. Everyone knows the benches, this was is a discussion about the stock market.

I am a noob, and I would like to learn a thing or two about stocks, like how can a company loose half of it's value in 2 days, since 3 months ago it posted RECORD PROFIT for the second trimester in succession!

The question could be: is the Wall Street overreacting? For the moment nVidia still has the high end, CUDA is not doing bad, how could it loose half of the value so fast?

I'll assume people aren't buying cards like they used to be, and now ATI is getting those sales...

ATI is most likely playing a big part. ATI has made a VERY sudden comeback and Nvidia were not prepared at all as they were expecting the 4000 series to be on par or worse than there 200 series...woops they underestimated ATI. Im not sure how the market works and stocks word ETC...however I do know that Rival companies making a stand and taking back market shares will not help.

ATI/AMD is dropping too, maybe because of AMD not having an answer to C2D/Nehalem, Intel is stagnating due to lack of competition... it looks like a domino effect: if a part of the industry is doing bad (AMD for ex), the other
can't possibly be doing good, at least because there is no-one to compare it to.

Friday afternoon philosophy...

BTW, today is the 4th of July and here's what wikipedia has to say about it:
Quote:
In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

What am I missing
But we must see the $11.45 first.

The problem is that Nvidia didnt come up with a new architecture until ATI did, if they had made the 9 series what the gt200 is now then they wouldnt be in this problem, they let ATI catch up and they did a damn good job too. I just recently bought a 8800gt because I couldnt wait for the 4870, but I did by a crossfire board so in anticipication of this happening I would be prepared. only time will tell what happens to Nvidia

Nvidia will return to the crown spot, then Ati, then Nvidia, then Ati. It is a cycle. No need to be all " OmG Nvidia is doomed!" like everyone was with AMD/ATi when their 2900 sucked .
