Why dont they just allow people to set their own servers up with their own playstation instead of doing it themselves? Unless this is already allowed of course, i dont know anything about servers lol.

I know your just messing around enterprise but people in general are complaining about 50 messily dollars like they are paying for a car or something. Its like if you can afford the monthly high speed bill, then you can afford xbox live. What makes it worse is that people who play WOW are willing to pay 12-15 bucks a month to play one game but ***** and complain about how 50 bucks a year to play almost all xbox live games for a year is too expense. This world is built on hypocrisy and it is real sad. Humans in general are a pain in the ass sometimes.

Dude - do you understand how Xbox Live works?

Basically, in simple terms, you're paying M$ to let people leech off your internet. Almost 3/4 of XBL is all P2P connectivity. I shouldn't have to pay to let people take my internet which I ALREADY pay for. Hell, I shouldn't have to pay for the internet services I ALREADY pay for.

Now, there are some PSN P2P things like MGO. But, even then, PSN at least has an excuse to use P2P. They don't charge a dime. Even then, PSN uses PS3 cluster servers to run games like Warhawk.

XBL doesn't bother to host servers for anything (except maybe the marketplace).

It costs Sony more money to use PSN then it does M$ to run XBL. M$ doesn't need to charge money for XBL, Sony has a reason to do it if need be. Which they don't.

Dude, I would like to save $50 a year because I don't need to pay for the internet services I already have. Get that clear.

It's not the price, it's the principle.

QFT.

One of the reasons I got a PS3 over 360 was because of the free online. I refuse to pay for others to play on my console and connection. That's not something that costs MS money and there's no reason for them to charge for that.

And PSN is plenty good enough for me, so I'll take free and good enough over "cost me money and still only good enough". XBL hasn't impressed me with anything that I find worth paying for.

Nothing against the 360, it's still a great console. Can't wait to play GoW2

yup, I cancelled my XBL sub long ago. I save my xbox for single player games or 360 exclusives only.

thats the thing there silver account os a cut down variant of XBL and you get the most of what you need.

the thing people don't get is that people would rather have something free over paying for it any day. So sony's marketing scheme is simple really, have XBL and pay for it, or have PSN for free. I wouldn't be surprised if once the big titles of PS3 comes out this year and early next PS3 sales go through the roof.

Well - sales have already gone through the roof with MGS4. The one problem is - I don't think there are any "big" PS3 title games comming out this year. Unless Killzone 2 is.

**Warning, this is not an incoming flame**

I can live with myself paying $7.00/mo. for XBL.

Would anyone here really pay ANY kind of monthly fee for PSN?

I'm not saying PSN is bad in any way, shape, or form...but just consider that

if it's $5.00/mo

no but really, I probably would depending on the cost and how much I would actually play online.

As for MMOs - the price is justified. It's true that in the case of WoW they could have drastically dropped the price now that they have so many subscribers, but they started with $14.95 and stuck with it. You could argue it's because they don't want to confuse subscribers, or more likely, they want to generate more profit.

Companies have always provided the server indexing service for free. Look at EVERY PC game.
It's just the way it has always been - MMOs have a pay to play model or a pay to upgrade model, and everything else is free.

Just because these games are console games doesn't mean people won't pay 3rd parties to get their own server.

Look at PC games - people don't host the servers on their computers, but pay a 3rd party to host it for them and get admin access to it.

The publisher should always fund some servers to get the game started and then leave it to the community.
If you charge EVERYONE for servers and don't give them the capability to host their own, all you'll get are frustrated players who wouldn't think twice about leaving if something happened to incline them to leave.
Console online is not equal to PC online meaning the company has to foot the bill to maintain the service.

They aren't being 'buttholes' your getting a bigger community, more robust online experience with XBL than PSN. Everygame must be connected to Live in some way, the same can't be said about PSN games, so paying 4$ a month is totally justified and not having to manage different servers. You get what you pay for.
Also, how can you say that MMO's are justified when all you can do is play THAT game online for 15$ amonth + the price of the game. Lets hope I don't have multiple MMO subscriptions.
