Quads are definitely worth it

Thread Starter
well i was sitting at home and my dad wanted me to compile some pictures (several hundred) and make them in to a dvd slide show with some music. so i did it, except it was on my E2xxx machine.

so when i started compiling it it said estimated remaining time over 1 hr.

i thought this was too long.

so i immediately went over to my quad and turned it on. copied over the pictures and music, had to set it all up again (im already 20 minutes down on the E2xxx that already started) and hit compile. estimated time 15 minutes. <- this is much better , also to keep in mind the quad is folding during all of this. i was able to not only burn it twice but have time remaining before the E2xxx machine got one done.

Quad FTW here.

Quad ftw

You should show this to the guy that said that quads were horrible and a waste of money.

Very nice use for a quad! Sometimes I second guess myself as mine is just really a gaming general use rig. But if I ever had to doe somethign like that it's nice to know the juice is there.

My understanding is that for single threaded applications it is the CPU speed that is more important, now considering that a Q6600 clocks to 3.6Ghz without much trouble this isnt really an issue but for someone building a non OC'ed gaming machine a dual core with a faster CPU clock should provide better results As for quad = no bottle neck ever... There is a lot more to CPU performance than the number of cores, i mean look at the AMD vs Intel chip debate, sure AMD has 4 cores but does that equate to performance?

Come on guys... There is so much more to CPU performance than simply the number of cores, and of course a quad can be a bottleneck, try 4870CF on an AMD quad then on intel and tell me if there is a bottleneck

Very true. That's why the gaming rig I built for a friend has an E8400. He didn't want to OC at all, . IMO this was the fastest CPU, for the price, I could get to ensure good game play.

Yep! QFTW!! <---can we make that a new saying..

I've really never been dissapointed with my Quad. The only thing that erks me about mine, when me and the girlfriend are playing COD, here dually box always loads the maps quicker.. Other then that, the Quad wins!!

I would think that's more a function of she has the better HDD.

you should try them on HD video compiling

especially at 3.67GHZ :O compared to a athlon dual core 6000+ o/c to a whooping 3.25GHZ LOL
