BIG ATi HD4870 problems (help) - Page 3

I use riva tuner 2.09 for my 3870 to control the fans . Im surprised the card runs soo hot, i was really happy my 3870 ran much cooler than the 8600gts i had previosly, Im seeing load temps around 57 C and isdle temps around 37 C. If i run ac in the room they go down.

Thread Starter
Hmm another problem seems to be arising now.

When I try to set my CPU back up to 3.2Ghz from stock like its always been I fail to get a display, the screen just goes to standby each time, it does this for about 5 minutes, upon which time I have to turn the psu off, turn the mains of and then proceed to turn the pc on, then connect dvi cable, and then it works but has reverted back to stock clocks.

Odd huh.

EDIT: So has anyone got any ideas about why this may be?

I know it's a pain but have considered a fresh install of Windows?

here's a thought on adjusting the fan speed - taken from a review by "Mr. Doodles on newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102748

"Other Thoughts: DO NOT FLASH YOUR GRAPHICS CARD AS SOME SUGGEST. DOING SO COULD RUIN THE CARD AND VOID YOUR WARRANTY. Simply tweak that nice little profile file and your good. C:\\Users\\"username"\\AppData\\Local\\ATI\\ACE\\" profilename".xml <Property name="FanSpeedAlgorithm" value="Manual" /> This will originally say "automatic" change to manual. - <Feature name="FanSpeedPercentTarget_0"> <Property name="Want" value="45" /> Set the want value to whatever suits your needs, in my case 45 did the trick. I just edited with note pad. Also, you must enable the profile each and every time you want to enable the higher fan speed. Save the file and enable the profile in catalyst now you should hear a big difference. If not, you did something wrong."

Hope this helps.
