I Have A Pen-d, Plz Make Fun!

Actually I need help more then anything. The processor market terriibly confuses me and I Apparently need an upgrade very bad.
I'm not sure how much of my financial resources I should dedicate to a nice CPU . But obviously it needs to maximize the power of my GTX 280.

Also, would it be a total sin to put a nice new CPU in my stock mobo? Thats getting upgraded to, but probably after the cpu. I have to assume that you can remount a cpu a few times right?

They are not nice.

Buy a E8400 or E6750 depending on budget

And you can install a CPU as many times as you want.

You'd probably be better off getting a new motherboard along with a cpu. The ds3l is a good board. An e8400 would be a good cpu to get. With the stock board, you won't be able to oc and you will bottleneck the 280.

OEM boards usually suck, and aren't compatible with much other than what they come with.

I'd be surprised if your board even supported an 800mhz FSB E2180.

Return the GTX280, buy a P35, a Q6600, and a 4870 like I said in that other thread, it will cost the same, and you won't regret it.

Edit: but if you dont know how/want to know how to overclock, then get an E8400 like these guys are saying, It will perform much better at stock

Its a 945g chipset which is probably going to limit your cpu choices, and of course no overclocking on that board. You could probably get a dfi blood iron mother board for around $100 or less and a core 2 e2160 for around $70 and overclock it to 3ghz+ that would be decent if you were on a budget. What is your budget anyways?

Even if that was true, were not allowed to think it D:

Do I really need a new board/Bios to use newer intel cpus? I thought it was just a size/socket issue. I need to know this.

I looked at my mobo specs:
LGA775 socket for latest Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium D / Pentium 4 / Celeron D processor
FSB 1066/800/533 MHz
Support Hyper-Threading Technology
CHIPSET
Intel® 945GC & ICH7

So am I screwed or what??
