Seriously Considering Investing in AMD/ATI - Page 2

If you want to invest in PC technology.... start reading OUTSIDE the tech magazines as well. Most of the high-end components don't matter as much as you think. Read up on when companies sign deals with OEMs or BestBuy. Or when Apple decides to go NVIDIA or ATI for its next line of PCs. Those types of news have more long-term impact than a HD4870X2 or some other uber-card.

Don't forgot... if you read something cutting edge somewhere... many other tech investors and analyst already know as well. The money comes from figuring out what all that data and articles REALLY mean.

I have thought about investing into AMD or NVIDIA. Looking back at their stock histories you can tell when a new product was dominating the market. One stock goes up the other goes down. I would invest in the stock that goes down and sell the stock with the one that peaks and repeat. I am no investor but I do know computers. Both stocks appear to be at lows right now. I don't see either disappearing anytime soon so both would probably return you money eventually. Again I am no investor.

some info for you to consider:
eps -5.53
600 million + shares outstanding
0 insider buying over last 6 months
institutions sales of 191,658,000 last quarter.
% change in institutional shares held -80.6% meaning funds are dumping the stock
almost 6 billion in debt
0 profitable quarters over the last two years (probably longer i just didn't check)

i wouldn't even consider this stock. there are so many other stocks trading far below their book values right now. you should look for stocks you can buy at a "discount", this is not one of them.

I personally wouldn't, since they have already hit the sweet spot with the 48x0 series, they're going to be too expensive.
Heck I wouldn't even buy any Nvidia, but thats just me.
(I'm 15, made ~13k last year in stocks/investments)

i would suggest looking at the company over the past 4 years. both ati and nvidia. i would guess that both of there stocks have stayed pretty even in price and you will not make any money investing in either company.
