HELP!! nb heatsink broken?

-- asus maximus formula x38 motherboard --

Ok so i took my comp apart today to add a new hard drive and clean all the dust out and me deciding to be a hero saw the little asus fan that's made for the nb. i put it on then before i even used it i decided to take it off, when i was taking it off the silver part of the heatsink came up about .25-.50 inches from the copper part of the heat sink below.

my question is am i screwed? did i totally break it. i did not remove the motherboard from the case so im unsure if there is a chip under it, i think the main northbridge chip is on the other side like above where the pci slots are and the heatsink continues basically all the way around the cpu?

i removed all my overclocks and the temps are 42 on the northbridge, when it was oc @ 3.2 usually in the 50's

i tried to take some pics but i was unable to show the gap distance where it was bent up

i may be just paranoid and freaking out because im not sure how tight that heatsink was to begin with if anyone can shed some light on this for me would be very grateful
thanks.

Looking at it on my board (while installed of course) its kinda hard to tell what that silvery bit is attached to. Looking through the fins it looks like two heatpipes are in them. I seriously doubt you've done any damage to them with what you described you did.

Does if feel loose or does it move about when pushed now? Mine only slightly bends a bit if you push on the bit which goes to the outside. There is a bit of rocking but thats only the give in the metal/attachment etc.

I would say your fine.

wow this is good news it does exactly what you said it kinda moves a bit only on the one side, which is where it kinda popped up from.

its not loose or anything

i really hope i didnt do any damage its been 25 mins online at 2.4ghz and im itching to bump it back up

thanks alot for your reply
i think ill just keep an eye on the temps for a day or 2 and make sure nothing goes higher than it should.

Yea good idea.

Looking at the heat sink over the whole board its attached in so many places you would find it nearly impossible to actually remove contact between it and the components it cools, without taking out the pins.

Just now up'd myself from stock to the same as you lol, 400x8. Tried running the memory at 1200mhz but it ddnt like that. Hopefully I can get it there, gunna need alot more tweeking.
