How do i set up crossfire for my 4870s? Plus other q's

Hi guys

I've just built a new system with 2x4870's.

Why are there 2 crossfire ports on the cards? Do I need to use both crossfire connectors, or just one? And if i need to use 1, which slots does it go on....the nearest to the back of the case or the nearest to the front of the case?

Also, each card has 2 x PCI power slots on them. Do I need to use all power slots i.e. 4 x PCI slots. Or does each card just need 1 power supply.

Are there any other slots on the card that need addressing. My PCI power leads have a very small lead of about 2 or 3 pins protruding off them....whats that for?

Also, when I hook my display up do I just need to connect it to just one DVI/HDMI slot on one card, or both? Do I need to get an adapter to do this?

My top card is getting really really hot, whereas the bottom one is fine. This worries me. That can't be usual can it, this is during the booting process too, not gaming.

any help to my questions would be great
regards
Jp

this is normal when you have SLI and CF is that one card tends to be hotter than the other card by 5-8 degrees. In regards to your CF questions I would use both CF bridges and yes you need to use all the PCI-E power connectors for your 2x cards.

Also this should be some help to adjust your fan speeds because these cards run hot due to it being at 20% or 25% fan speed.

My 8800GT's do that i think because Boot up can't use Crossfire/SLI so it uses the main card witch is the top. Airlow is probley not the same on both card also. Correct me if wrong!

1. Use both Crossfire Bridges.
2. Plug all the power cords in.
3. You only need one Cable for your display.
4. Your top card is hotter because most likely it is your primary card. Don't worry about it unless it goes over 90 under load.
5. Take your cards out, put them in a box and send them to me. Hehe nah have fun with those they are awsome cards.

I think that's all bases covered.
