Totally Frazzled - Quadcore Mobo search

Thread Starter
I've been searching for a good mobo over the last week, mainly looking at Asus and Gigabyte mobo's but i'm totally frazzled, just can't seem to figure out which ones are the good ones and i've posted one a few forums trying to get some answers but the posts always go unanswered - hopefully here will be much better ay

If anyone can help that'd be great

All i'm looking for is a mobo that basically
1: Has a good feature set
2: Is under $200 Australian $$$
3: Seeing as i'n a watercooler it has to be a good overclocker for Quadcores (specifically the 9450 possible 9550 as theres ment to be big price cuts in Aus very soon)

I've always had Gigabyte boards but if theres something really good from Asus i'll jump on it (plus it'll be good to get away from the god awful clown colours gigabyte always seem to use to colour their boards)

Obviously i was going for the P45 chipset also, with the newer southbridge chip

Oh i should probably add i never plan to do SLI/Crossfire so those 1XPCI-E boards are perfectly fine (probably be better actually seeing as it'll probably have more extra slots for other stuff)

Anyway if anyone can help, please do, i need to update this damn dinosaur of a PC (pentium 4 prescott, so over the amount of heat and power the thing makes and eats plus the latest games really do lay the smack down on this old thing, i've pretty much OC'ed the guts out of it too, it ain't going to go much higher than it is now thats for sure)

Cheers all

The Asus P5Q definitely doesn't look like it comes from Gigabyte and looks pretty flashy as well.

Hope I help.

depends if your set on the chipset you want, there are alot of really good p35 chipset boards full of features with both Asus and Gigabyte that would be well within your price range. From what I saw of the p45 boards it appears that Asus has some really nice boards for cheap, dont overlook Abit either, check those out too. From my own personal experience, and being a happy Asus customer, I would personally go with a p5q, if I had waited a little while to get a motherboard when I bought my p35 board I would have bought that one. Good Luck.

I've been looking at the P5Q actually, seems like a really nice motherboard, can't find any specific reviews of it but have found reviews of the pro and delux versions which would essentially around the same mark?

It definitely has the looks and a nice feature set, except for that really random placement of the 24pin ATX connector, thats such bad placement, nearly as bad as the 4pin 12v connector placement on my old P4 northwood board (nearly in the same spot actually)

Thing thats got me really interested is the 5second linux thing, real handy in the morning when i just wanna check something on the net before work, not having to boot the pc up completely, plus i've got mates who mess them selves over linux, this'll make em jealous

Cheers guys, pretty much nailed the mobo side of things unless theres anymore suggestions?

Now though, next probably should be looking at a new PSU, seeing as mines not an EPS (you know the 4x4 (8)pin connector), Though i remember seeing a long while ago that its not required to have it (that was conroe release days) i suppose its a required thing now days is it?

the lanparty (p35)
is suppose to be godly at overclocking quads

Definitely not, DFI's X38/48's have better quad support if you're going the DFI route, which it sounds like he's not anyway.

After some hard thinking, seeing as i'll prolly keep these parts for another 6 years

I've decided to splurge a bit and get the Asus P5Q Deluxe. My question now is, is there a better motherboard with the same feature set (i looked at the Asus P5E, only $10 more but its lacking alot of features of this board and yeah not worth dropping those features just for X48) around the same price or is that about as good as it gets without moving into the near $300 mark ($241 for the deluxe, more than i would have liked but it'll prolly be less by the time i buy plus as i said, i'll keep it for ages so may as well splurge and get something good for once)

Cheers

ps, i compared that 750i and not really taken by the features and such that it offers, pretty standard and even lacking when compared the P5Q Deluxe, i assume its selling point is it performs a bit better?
