If by a few extra pixels, you mean nearly 7 times as many, then yes, it's just a few extra pixels. Not to mention that the sound is vastly improved, beyond even DTS quality in some instances, you can store a much larger amount of data on it. There's no way MGS4 could be on 360, ever, unless they put it on at least 3 disks.

And for reference...
640 x 480 = 307,200
1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600

Its high-definition video and audio. Sure a movie is just a movie, but when you've got incredible picture and sound in your living room (rather than BB or CC), the movie becomes much more enjoyable. HD raises the bar.

Blu-Ray and a 42" Plasma for the win <VS> Your 20" TV and VCR

Don't know about you, but once you watch movies in Hi-Def/Blu-Ray, all else is inferior. And the difference thereof is phenomenal.

Slight graphics differences don't matter as much as having to deal with shooting with the controllers. On PS3 I can use the KB/Mouse, and its so much more fun, I wouldn't even have bought UT3 if I had to use the controller.

It's really not a difference worth $500

And mike, since when is a DVDs sound quality bad?

Bah... I dunno, you guys must all be audio/videophiles, with the 30" displays and 800kbps songs... even though they sound and look the same as 20" displays and 256kbps songs.

Blue Ray owns DVD. I can tell a huge difference when watching them(42" 1080P LG) and watching a regular dvd. Maybe you need Lasik?

have you tried upconverting dvd players? i have both a blu ray and an upconverting dvd player, and in a side by side the difference is so minuscule (even on my 47" HDTV) i am considering selling my blu ray player. and the upconverting dvd player cost me 120 bucks.
