9800GTX Cooling Options?

Thread Starter
After spending god knows how much trying to get this rig as cool as possible on air i stupidly went and replaced my 7900GT (with HR-03) with a 9800GTX.

I've been looking round the usual online shops (UK) and still fail to see anything that will fit on anything better than an 8800. So either one of the many coolers that didn't give any indication of what they fit on will work, or none of them will.

Has anyone found an alternative to the stock fan? (that is quieter)

(PS, 1st person to mention watercooling gets a kick in the nuts
I'll swear everytime I post about quiet cooling the topic just gets spammed with "Just go watercooled noob" lol)

what brand 9800GTX is it? I have the EVGA GeForce 9800GTX and even overclocked I never get over 55c and usually 44c at idle with the stock dual slot cooler... I just used EVGA precision to manually bring the fan speed up to about 85%. However if you want aftermarker cooling try something like this:

http://www.crazypc.com/products/hr-03-gt-51001GT.html

I think that may be your best bet as far as non water cooling goes

Did he read any of the dude's initial post. Firstly it's listed as XFX in his sig and secondly he links him to the HR-03 GT which he had on his old card....

This is what I have on my 3850, it comes with lots of ramsinks (as you may have discovered if they also came with the HR-03), which will be fine with your 9800GTX.

The HR-03-GT is the newer revision (older doesn't have the "-GT")

http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=707493
http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=838523

EDIT: To clarify, Thermalright say the compatibility with the 9800GTX is conditional upon using the ramsinks listed here.

I can't see them on sale anywhere in the UK.

FrozenCPU say that you don't need any additional ramsinks, but I assume that's because the HR-03-GT ships with quite a few which should be compatible. If they are NOT enough - PM me and I'll send you any spares I have.

I see you already have plenty of Noctua goodness in your case; if you do get a new HR-03-GT and don't already have a 92mm fan, the Noctua fan listed above (and on my HR-03-GT in my sig) is very quiet, and my 3850 temps have dropped by 25-40C idle and under load. I use it at full speed without any of the low or ultra-low noise adapters. (37.8 CFM @17.6dB)

Well I think Its been just over a year since i got the HR-03 so i'll assume it's the older rev. I wonder if it will still fit?

(Yes @ngel, i have a spare Noctua 80mm that i had strapped to the HR-03 back when it was on my old 7900GT)
