Me + Eee PC?

Thread Starter
Well basically I'm no longer doing ANY PC gaming and I will soon be buying a XBox 360 (Please no PS3 fanboy flame). I want, not really need, a Eee PC. I like how small they are and they're just different. I'll use it basically to check e-mail, browse the web (OCN ) and chat. Now I know a computer store about an hours drive from here that is selling Eee PC's for $379 CAD. I don't know which model it is.

Really I want ATLEAST the 4GB SSD for the OS but the more the better and atleast 1GB of RAM. I heard the stock OS is crumby and I was wondering if they had figured out the issues with mic and cammera with Ubuntu?

I plan on using a 8GB+ SDHC card for my files so I can remove them and access them on another computer and also I heard that SSD drives wear out over X-amount of cycles so I want the SSD to last.

I may consider putting Vista basic on there just to prove to people that you don't need a killer computer to run it...

Will I be able to get 4GB's of SSD and 1GB of RAM and hopefully a 2GB+ SDHC card for under $400 w/ taxes?

Here's the link to the computer store's site.
www.jlcomputers.ca

Also is there anything out there that rivals the Eee PC for under $400 w/ taxes?

I'm handing out REP like candy if you can answer my many questions with detail

Thanks,

~B~

Don't post if you arn't going to help.

I don't know all the prices, but the ones I know that rival the EEE pc are:

HP mininote - http://h40059.www4.hp.com/hp2133/

Everex Cloudbook - http://www.everex.com/products/cloudbook/cloudbook.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CloudBook

MSI Wind - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSI_Wind_PC

Dell E - http://gizmodo.com/5016086/dells-min...d-e-and-e-slim

They have a Ubuntu version that was made for the EEE, it's called EEEbuntu or something like that.

I was thinking about getting an EEE pc. But now I have seen the competiton and I'm liking the MSI Wind and Mini note better.

That looks the exact same as a cloudbook, Not sure if it is or not.

Walmart has them, I don't know if they will ship them to you.

Size isn't really a big deal as long as I can fit Vista Basic on it eventually
