I hate responsibility...

You can run Vista on a very crappy machine. All you need is 1GB ram, and a 1.2Ghz processor. It will run slow, but it will run. Any "Eee" pc you get should be able to handle it.

Eee PC is 630MHz Still "waiting" for BIOS update to run at 900.

I don't know all the prices, but the ones I know that rival the EEE pc are:

HP mininote - http://h40059.www4.hp.com/hp2133/

Everex Cloudbook - http://www.everex.com/products/cloudbook/cloudbook.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CloudBook

MSI Wind - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSI_Wind_PC

Dell E - http://gizmodo.com/5016086/dells-min...d-e-and-e-slim

They have a Ubuntu version that was made for the EEE, it's called EEEbuntu or something like that.

I was thinking about getting an EEE pc. But now I have seen the competiton and I'm liking the MSI Wind and Mini note better.
This is exactly what I was going to post
and on top of that
if you want an EEE pc you are going to have to be more specific because there are currently way too many models

First off, you don't want the EEE PC 700 series as it is completely outdated and the screen is too small for web browsing (too much horizontal scrolling)

The 900 series got better, and more expensive, featuring a larger screen/battery size/ SSD size etc, and the availability of windows
I'd get a low end of that
there are celeron versions and intel atom versions
the atom ones are a lot more expensive but not really faster, but might be better on the battery life

If I were you, I'd get an MSI Wind instead when it comes to Canada (thats why I plan on doing)

also, see if you can wait to see the dell offering, it looks promising
but basically whatever you chose to do, dont get the 7' screen version.

And what reason would anyone have to run vista on a machine that slow? What does it provide that XP doesn't?
