Velociraptor or two 7200RPM in RAID? - Page 2

I have a pair of 250s and they are pretty good..but not as good as the latest large capacity dirves. I have run them in RAID and they work great...but not as fast as two Raptors in RAID.

I realize you don't need that kind of space...but for whatever reason the 1TB F1 is the fastest drive I have benched (excluding my SCSI drives)

The Samsung F1 640GB beats all those. A bit hard to find as of now, but they'll become more available very soon.

Fastest non-velociraptor RAID setup? It's gotta be a couple of regular raptors.

The Western Digital is an excellent option right now and you can't beat it for $90 shipped at the egg. I love my RAID0 array.

Yup, there is no substitute for the fast random access times of the Raptors (or Velociraptors) in a gaming rig.

if you think your going to not ever need more than 150gigs of space go with the velociraptor if you think your going to be pushing the 300gigs then go with the raid and save a few bucks ^_^

one more considerations is that velociraptors are LOUD keep that in mind.

Reviews have the Velociraptors being quieter than most other hard drives.

I'd love to see someone take a pair of those huge HDDS in RAID with them partitioned to say only 50G each and do a benchmark comparison to the two with the full space allocated.
Since the say 50G would be on the outer most part of the plater I wonder just how much, or if any bench able proven performance would be gained.

We already know that answer.... just look at the first 100GB of a 2xRAID0 array. The array begins on the outer edge of the platters.
