Jacko87, I think the reason is because I was able to overclock the memory on the 4850 much higher than I can overclock the 4870. I am still using the ati overdrive to overclock the 4870. Maybe later I will use the new ati tool that just got released to overclock the card more.

I wish I could but I sold the 4850 this morning to a friend of mine. However, on Monday my other 4870 gets here so I will have some crossfire results to post.

Ok all of my results for the 4870 have been posted. Hopefully my other 4870 comes in tomorrow and I get some nice crossfire results to post. As always, comments are welcome.

i got 7668 on 3dmark06........its lame i tested my bros 8800GTS 320MB and got 11,000K
post #15 of 24
That 3Dmark06 score with the overclocked 4850 is disappointing.

I scored an almost identicle score with an OC'd 8800gt and OC'd Core 2 Duo E6600.

Yeah, the only reason someone should buy a 4850 is if they are going to crossfire it with another card.

well where is the GTX280 in the mix??

And yes, the 4850's suck, I can only get 19k in 3DM06.

About to ditch them though when the 4870X2 comes along.

All of the scores I am listing here is with the video card pushed to the highest I could reach on the stock air cooler while being 100% stable.

My monitor is only 1400 X 900 so I cant test those super high res, sorry. I am using a q6600 @ 3.0 with 2 gigs of pc 8500 ram on win vista. Also I am using 8.6 hotfix driver for the 4850 & 4870. I have my fan set to 60% for the 4850 and 45% for the 4870. This is my 1st time really doing something like this so please forgive me mistakes I make along the way.

I tried to use different screen backgrounds for the different cards..
Red Hulk - 8800GT
Batman - 8800GTX (One of the GTX scores was done on the red hulk)
Joker - 4850
Red Green Hulk - 4870

How come you score so low in crysis with 4850. I get 36.5fps with my super slow 3700 which is no match for Q6600?
