How old would you say the building is? Alot of older buildings were not ment to power a lot of what we use today. That's why the electrical code is different than it use to be.
You would be much better off to buy a battery back up unit. They can be pricey but would save you money on replacing RAM and would also keep your PC from being hit with power draw when the AC kicks on. I use to have one when I live in an old apartment building. If I use a microwave or the AC my breakers would blow and shut my PC down. That eventfully killed the entire rig.
