PC Shutsdown after a few minutes of gaming

Ok I got myself a 4850 to replace my 7600gt.

So I Started trying games out,

Acreed: the pc crashes at graphic options menu or almost instantly on game load.

Mass Effect: almost instantly on load

Crysis: same as ME

So I decided to unplug all unused usb devices and my extra internal harddisk and my dvd burner.

ACreed:still the same

Mass Effect: manage to get 10-15mins play b4 shutdown

Crysis: same as ME

So I'm guessing its my PSU has this has never happen to me b4. only after installing my 4850 and only when gaming on high load.

Hope to hear what you guys have to say, cause if its really my psu, I guess I have to get a new one.

BTW:61% fan speed using 8.7beta driver. I do have one strange problem too, I installed the 8.7b after using DCP but after installing the driver I still get the "new hardware detected", "install hardware" screens. The hardware appears to be "PCI Card" but when I checked under display I already had the 4800 drivers installed so I'm abit puzzled.

Is the PC overheating? There is usually a shutdown if it gets too hot( set in bios). That 4850 might be putting out too much heat, triggering the shutdown.

As far as you PSU, it might be under too much load, which would casue it to crash.

What amperage does your PSU put out? Do you have any friends in the area that you can swap video cards with. Did you remove all nvidia drivers from the system before installing the 4850? Did you format reinstall?

Make sure to use driver cleaner to remove all old display drivers and reinstall latest drivers for 4850.

nope not hot, my side panel is open as I'm was testing the card, surely not heat issue.

I'm guessing PSU too as I didn't have an issue with my 7600gt

The 4850 draws more than the 7600GT did. Stll, what are the amps per 12v rail on that PSU? Wattage is one thing, but far from the most important.

well I try to see if I can find the amps of my psu.
Anyway I'm using a 4pin-6pin adaptor so its 1 male 6pin connected to two male 4pins. So how do I connect them? right now I'm connecting each of the 4pin to each of my 12v rail.

It shouldn't matter. How do you know what rails are what? Just because there is more than one harness with molexes on them coming out of the PSU, that doesn't mean they are on 2 seperate rails. Most multiple rail PSU's do not actuall have multiple rails.

edit: Also, I would look into a new rig soon. that card will not be able to shine to its potential with your current set-up.
