6400+ BE overclock - Page 6

my problem now is that having it at oem specs isn't enough anymore...i wana push it to 4.0ghz hopefully...i already planned that i should have a goal of 250fsb and 16 cpu multi. and drop the ht multi to 4 which would seem right on the money so far...

my first question is where can i get a ddr2 table for cpu multiplier of 16???

second thing is that i cannot seem to walk my cpu up the 16 multiple at all...i even tried dropping my memory sooo low that it would never get out of range and it wont let me pass 212x16...

now i am alittle rusty since i haven't overclocked or looked at overclocking since last winter... now i know that the memory has to be 1:1 etc. etc. but i am alittle foggy on it....

if my goal is 4.0ghz i would imagine that my memory would be around 1000mhz after the equation i plugged in but it does like it even when i loosen the timings from the original specs 4-4-4-12 2t 23 to 5-5-5-15 2t 24...

i seem to have hit a brick wall...this 6400+ is totaly a new ball game compared to the low level cpu's...

well i am going to run back through the equations and see about boosting from 3.2ghz to 3.4ghz and see how i do....i will drop the multiple probably from 16 to atleast 15 if not 14 and see if that can help my overclock...because right now i cannot even get passed windows booting up...will restart i didn't just go straight to 250fsb but that is a goal because 250 is the best round number i know...

I ended up setting my Multiplier to x14 and the Fsb to 227... That got me a STABLE 3.29 x 2... At 16x I could not get the the FSB over 201 and would crash on Crysis over and over. My HT multiplier is at 5. Using Ntune I was able to set the PCIEX to 2,850 giving me crisp 1680x1050 w\\o lag using a Sparkle NVIDIA 8800 GT 1024MB GPU. The 6400 BE is hard to cool. But that is the best I have done so far... Good Luck... If you find a better combo let me know... My Phenom Rig is down so I'm ripping it up with the 6400+ BE for now...

Dont want to be the bearer of bad news but not a chance of hitting 4GHZ on air,Even with water its a mybe,
LN2 may even struggle,Its already pushed to its limmits at it is.
I have myne at 214HT [FSB] x 16 which run 100% stable at 3424MHz.
If i go above 35ooMHz its a nightmare,Freezing,Bsod,restarts.
So youll proberly just get it to around 3500MHz give or take 1ooMHz.
Thats why i wished i got the Q66oo or Q67oo but thats being impatient for you
Good luck anyway and go check out the Black Edition Club for great infomation and how to get the best out of the your Blackie chip. the 64oo,5ooo, And now the BE 4 cores phnonm [Spelt wrong]but you get what i mean,
i can not even say the word

thanks for all the info guys....i might go thermal electric if i find this water cooling set up isn't going to be enough to keep it cool under extreme overclocks...

If you feel like you definetly hit a wall at 2.5-2.6 you might want to try and get better ram and mobo. Amd cpus, especially k8 from what I've read are very sensitive to the quality of the ram you use when you overclock. Better (more pricey however ) ram usually means higher and more stable overclock so I suggest maybe do some research around here for what ram you might want to get if you want to push for 4.0 ghz. Especially if you go with low multi high fsb you might want to get higher clocked ram then the one you already have, last i heard ocz and gskill ddr2 were pretty good for ocs. Above 3.5 ghz on a x2 6400 be is not impossible it just takes a lot of system tweaking and guessing to achieve that.

okay so i finally got it up and running my only problem right now is that i am encountering alot of instability at 250x14 (3600mhz)....

i have my settings at such:

fsb: 250
ht multi: 4
cpu multi: 14
ddr2 timing: 4-4-4-12 2T 22
ddr2 voltage: 2.1v
cpu voltage: 1.55v
northbridge volt. : +0.3v
southbridge volt: +0.2v
ddr2 divide at 667(which is 400mhz at 250fsb with cpu multi at 14)

i have 1:1 ratio going and i have voltages maxed out i don't know what is wrong because it will either blue screen or freeze before i can start testing...

i even dropped the memory to 400 and loosened the timings i got more stable but not enough to test with...

my water cooling setup is thus:

rad/res->cpu/pump->nb->rad/res

at the settings above i idle at high 30C or low 40C...this is with dual rad...

furthermore, i think that the memory is what is holding me back i don't know why but i feel like it will crash my system every time i am wondering why because everything seems to be perfect on paper and everything boots correctly but the problem consists with once i get to the desktop it starts screwing up!!!

I think it's your RAM. Do you have any friends that live near you that you could swap RAM with for testing just to make sure.

what you think i should do...replace the ram?? i mean it isn't bad....it works regularly but i have different versions. i believe one is 2.1 and the other is like something else to different ec on them...

could it be that because the ram is different versions it could be causing the issue??

AMD really needs to refresh this chip to 45nm, then we would get way better clocks compared to 90nm

from what ive heard 4ghz is impossible
